One road in
Getting here
There is a single road, it is long, and the last stretch is slow. Plan the day around that and the trip is straightforward.
From the ferry terminal the drive is about four and a half hours, and the last ninety minutes are mountain curves where nobody overtakes. Leaving after four in the afternoon means arriving in the dark on that section, which we would not do if we had a choice.
By air
There are scheduled flights into the local strip from the mainland. They are small aircraft and they do not fly in everything. Build a spare day into the end of the trip if you are flying out to catch something else.
The last turn
The inlet road leaves the highway at a bend with no sign worth reading at speed. Look for the gravel pull-out on the left and the cedar post. If you pass the second bridge you have gone four kilometres too far, and the next place to turn is a logging spur that we would rather you didn't use.
- Parking for nine cars behind the house, unlit, gravel
- Arrive after nine in the evening and ring from the road
- No fuel on the inlet road, fill up in town
- Mobile coverage stops about a kilometre before the house
